Bettembourg is a town in southern Luxembourg that is part of the Esch-sur-Alzette canton.

Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg – Luxemburg is located at Route de Mondorf, L-3260, Bettembourg. Bettembourg is about ten kilometers off Luxembourg City and five kilometers off the border of France.

Getting There

You can arrive by air or railway to Luxembourg City, which is the easiest place to come from to get to Bettembourg. From Luxembourg City, there fastest way to reach Bettembourg is via rail.

There are several train schedules that leave for Bettembourg – about 3 or 4 per day. Once you are in town, you can reach Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg – Luxemburg via a bus ride.

From the city center, take bus number 304 which leaves for the park every hour; from Monday thru Saturday. If you will be visiting the park on a Sunday, you will need to get your own private transport or you can also walk to the park as it is only about a twenty-minute walk from the city center.

What to See and Do

Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg – Luxemburg is the top children’s attraction not only in the city but the rest of the country as well. The park is home to a number of domestic and wild animals that children and adults will get to see as they explore the park.

The zoo will give you a closer look at beautiful animals and birds including parrots, flamingos, deer, dingoes and ibises. Lemurs are also a top attraction in the park.

Kids can get on the mini train or ride ponies around the park, frolic in the playground as well as ride mini cars. For little girls, they will love the small houses taken from famous kids’ fairy tales.

Brief History

Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg – Luxemburg was established not only to provide the younger generation a place to visit and meet some of the world’s most amazing creatures but more importantly, to provide a protected home to these beautiful creatures, as close to their natural habitats as possible.

More than providing a venue for entertainment and leisure, the park aims to educated its guests with the harsh and tragic effects of deforestation that are happening all over the world.

A short presentation on the ill-effects of deforestation, particularly in Madagascar and the Philippines, provides guests with an in-depth look at how this act affects the animals and birds who call these forests their home.

Buoillon Castle Description: The castle in Bouillion Belgium is a great day out – they have falconer who puts on numerous shows per day (in French and Flemish) and there are plenty of nooks and crannies in the chateau for kids to explore. Then, down in the village, there are quite a few good restaurants along the river, and a bike path along the river as well. Eifel Park Description: This is a very nice wildlife park with a twist of an amusement park with a few rides for all ages. On site you will find several playgrounds and restaurants, but no ATM machines, nor payments are accepted with bank card once you get into the park, so make sure you bring some cash with you. Butterfly Garden Description: This place was a really nice finding. Although not really big, the Butterfly Garden is beautiful and homes plenty of different species, giving children a great opportunity to learn more about the life cycle of cute butterflies. After the visit, you can drive just about 1km to reach the boats area in Grevenmacher. There, just next to the parking lot, you will find a really nice playground with a relaxing view of the Moselle. Aquarium Description: Although it’s not as big as many others in Europe, this is a nice aquarium with many sweetwater-fishes. Next to the aquarium you can also find a really nice playground. Lake Echternach Description: Nice for a picnic and a walk round the lake with a good playground (fenced), ducks to feed and trampolines during the Summer. You can also have a relaxed lunch at the hostel (buffet style). There is also a Delhaize supermarket right next to the main parking lot, in case you decide for a last minute picnic. Camping Birkelt Description: A really nice and family friendly camping site where you also have the option to rent a comfortable mobile home. Circular Walk “Klangwee Hoscheid” Description: It’s a sound trail with musical instruments along the way for the kids to play with.
